Compare the 2015-2016 and 2019-2020 data and give any one reason for the
reduction of production of steel in 2019-2020.
Total production of finished steel in India
Year | Production (in million tonnes) |
2015- 2016 | 106.60 |
2016- 2017 | 120.14 |
2017- 2018 | 126.85 |
2018- 2019 | 101.29 |
2019- 2020 | 102.62 |
There are several major reasons for the reduction of production of steel in 2019-2020. Some of the resons are describe in below:
1. Steel production facilities were shut down in response to COVID-19 from mid- to late-2020 and beyond.
2. Steel imports were also impacted by shutdowns, tariffs, and trade wars.
3. Because of general manufacturing shutdowns, the demand for steel decreased considerably for a time.
4.Due to working conditions, current events, and budget cuts, fewer workers were available within the industry. Warehouse inventory levels were depleted slowly and are now at an all-time low.
5.Mines were also shut down or impacted by COVID-19, which means fewer raw resources available.
The result is a massive steel shortage.
