When he thanked and showed his love for the dragon, he changed his mind. They were reminded how they used to make fun of this cowardly dragon and now they were all praising him. So once the dog said that it was just because of some illusion that he was not capable of doing anything otherwise he would have been twice as brave as Custard. To this, the dragon said that he completely agreed that they were all more powerful and courageous than him.
