The central theme of the passage is about the choice between:

(i) truth and power.
(ii) leaders who unknowingly spread fictions and those who intentionally do so.
(iii) stories that unite people and those that distinguish groups from each other.
(iv) attaining social cohesion and propagating objective truth.

This passage mainly discusses power from two different perspectives, the first perspective being power as objective truth, and the second perspective as a tool of manipulation to bring people together for a particular purpose. . I have the power. The question asks us to choose the central theme of the passage. Option 4 is the best option. The scientist, scholar and politician have to choose between achieving social unity and propagating objective truth. Option 1 is close, but it is not true alone, but true in the objective sense to which the path relates. Don't worry about the 2nd route.Option 3 is not the central subject.
