What did franz notice that was unusual about the school that day ?



Franz notice many unusual things at school that day. It was also still,claim and quiet like Sunday morning , while on other days there used to be a great bustle .

Franz expected reproach and punishment from M. Hamel because of being late. But M. Hamel kindly ask him to go to his place quickly. That was another surprise for him.

Next,Franz notice that his teacher was in his unusual dress that he never wore except on inspection and prize days. Once again ,that was a big surprise for Franz.

But the most surprising thing for Franz was that the village elders was sitting on the back benches that were always empty.
