There’s two things you need to do.

First. Stop thinking in terms of NEXT and start thinking in terms of where you want to end up and reverse engineer it.

There’s a big difference between wanting a big family with a decent house, stability and all the normal stuff versus having the flexibility to travel the world and build businesses etc. there’s no right or wrong answer, but obviously different jobs and opportunities yield different results, you just have to build the right bridge to the desired results.

Being a fashion designer will not pair well with raising a family of 5, making steady house payments, and paying for college tuition and endless dental and medical bills.

Doing something standard with the city, government or major corporation will make all your basic dreams come true but it stays basic.

The next thing is to take a long hard look at past successes and accomplishments and build upon what’s already been working for you.

While most people think of career changes as a blank slate with an entirely different industry, I encourage one to build upon your current values, belief systems, accomplishments and what people already know about you.

If you’ve worked in child care for 20 years, should you start fresh as a vet tech, for example….? While it’s not impossible, think long and hard on how to cash in on that 20 years worth of child care experience you have.

Is a mom blog appropriate? Starting a boys and girls club? Being a toy or product consultant, opening a daycare franchise of your own?

Do you see where I’m going with this?

Do you want to end up a deca millionaire or grandparent of the year? There’s no right or wrong, or good or bad, but decide where you want to go and the path will present itself.
