Why was the Inland Emigration Act of 1859 troublesome for plantation workers?
Four Reasons of the Inland Emigration Act of 1859 troublesome for plantation workers are -
- They were not permitted to leave the tea gardens without Permission.
- When they heard of Non – cooperation movement, thousands of workers defied the authorities, left the plantations, and headed home.
- They interpreted the term Swaraj in their own ways, imagining it to be a time when all sufferings and troubles would be over.
- Thus, the plantation workers too had their own understanding of Gandhiji’s notion of Swaraj.
